invocation
On Saturday, May 12th, 2018 I had the honor of giving the Invocation at Meredith College's Baccalaureate service.
Most gracious and loving God,
We invite you into this space today as we celebrate the Class of 2018. We offer thanks and praise for our families of origin and of choice; for friends, mentors, and confidants, and for all of those who have walked alongside us during this journey. Bless and keep my fellow graduates as we exit Meredith’s gates and venture into the vast and beautiful world which You have entrusted to us.
May we encounter mystery, grace, and the many forms of your loving-kindness wherever we go. We offer to you every joy, sadness, triumph, and defeat that we have encountered during our college experience. May you bless all of these experiences, and use them as an opportunity for wisdom and growth.
We thank you for the ways Meredith has shaped us and changed us for the good. May you strengthen and uphold her as she continues to nurture the hearts and minds of many. Bless all of those who walk through her gates, providing them with the sense of community and friendship that led us here four years ago.
Shape us into a people who will seek justice, love kindness, and walk humbly. Open our eyes to the ways that your love is at work. May we cling to the hope that love is more powerful than the death-dealing forces of this world. Prepare us to be beacons of light, hope, and love wherever we go.
Calm our hearts and minds as we enter into this space, and prepare us to hear the message that you want us to hear.
We offer you our deepest gratitude for bringing us to this moment.
Amen.
